Pete Whyman works in many areas of contemporary music. He regularly performs works by composers such as Louis Andriesson, Graham Fitkin, Michael Nyman and Luciano Berio. He was clarinet soloist in a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, conducted by the composer. Pete plays with various leading Contemporary Music Ensembles. Recently he performed Olivier Messiaean‘s Quartet For The End Of Time with The Fournier Trio. He was a member of the late Steve Martland’s Band and of cellist Matthew Barley's ‘Between the Notes’. He was a founding member of the Delta Saxophone Quartet. In the Pop field, he works with Elvis Costello, Nick Cave and also with Spiritualised, Barry Adamson and William Orbit. Solo recordings include the Trio album 'Pulse' on the FMR label.
Since the mid 1980s Pete has played, toured and recorded a succession of projects with Mike and Kate Westbrook. These range from music/theatre pieces like The Ass, Pier Rides and Art Wolf, to Westbrook Rossini and the Beatles tribute Off Abbey Road. He toured with Mike and Kate in the French Opera Quichotte, and featured in concert works such as Chanson Irresponsable and the epic London Bridge Is Broken Down. Pete Whyman’s long-time collaboration with Mike and Kate is celebrated in the BAND OF BANDS.
